Blood Vessels and AMD
The surgery works better for someone whose leaky blood vessels are away from their fovea. The closer to the fovea, the greater the rate of failure. As for what the fovea is, it is the center part of the macula, which explains why surgery may not be as successful for macular degeneration. This is a very sensitive area. Nevertheless, an individual is able to go home the next day after surgery, but there are a number of follow-up exams afterward that needs to be followed through on. There is a possibility that the laser treatment for macular degeneration surgery can cause some of the surrounding healthy tissue to become damaged or destroyed. It could also further impair vision in some way.
